I know many of my flist have given up on Glee (lucky souls, I'm still head over heels for three or four of their thirty plus cast and can't bear to leave them behind despite the weekly struggle of continuity fail and character assassination.)

HOWEVER, I implore you to give Chris Colfer's self-penned film Struck by Lightning a shot.

I've been waiting almost two years to watch this film and yet it still exceeded my expectations.

If Chris alone isn't enough to sell it to you, let me say that the film also boasts the casting of Allison Janney, Rebel Wilson, Christina Hendricks, Dermot Mulroney, Polly Bergen etc etc etc.

It's a high school film about a young man (Chris) who desperately wants to escape his small town and become a journalist. Blackmail, lightning and a lot of crowd funded paper are involved.

You can rent SBL to watch on itunes, amazon or ondemand with the Tribeca channel. I rented it from itunes (with an american giftcard) for $6.99.

I've been awfully quiet on LJ these days, reading, lurking, but forgetting to post.

My main reason being the MA in Publishing I'm currently undertaking. Not only am I being kept busy with new classes, new friends, lots of assignments and evening events...I've also been asked to blog about it.

So if anyone out there is interested, here are my Halloween exploits with a literary twist.

8 months after it should have aired in the Extraordinary Merry Christmas episode of season 3 of Glee, fandom FINALLY got Ryan Murphy to release this cut scene.

For those that don't know, the promotional material before the episode aired included stills of this scene that sent fans of Kurt and Blaine a twitter, with Blaine presenting Kurt a mysterious gift in a small red box. 'What was in the box?' became the question on everyone's lips, and we waited to find out with baited breath. Yet the episode aired, and whilst it included a VITAL scene in which Jewish Rachel was gifted a pig from her boyfriend, the time in which the box scene should have aired came and went...the episode ended. And a huge chunk of fandom ended with it.

Cut to May, and a group of fans heard the script for the episode was up for auction for charity. Many of us banded together to raise funds to purchase the script and see what was missing from the episode. In total we raised $14,000 for Project Angel Food, an LGBTQ* inclusive charity.

The script was perfect in all it's cheesy young love glory.

Now the scene was supposedly promised to be included on the dvds, but we soon found out that this was not true. Mass annoyance. By this time the season had ended, and fans of Kurt and Blaine had gone an entire season where the scenes were cut, and representations of queer affection were downplayed or ignored.

Then finally yesterday, show runner Ryan Murphy announces on his twitter that he'll release the scene if he gets to 500,000 followers (at the time he had 40,000.) We didn't appreciate being blackmailed after all the hard work that had gone in to raising money for charity just to read the scene, but we followed him regardless.

Today he has 100,000 followers (a large amount duplicate accounts with some rather tongue in cheek names) and he ACTUALLY RELEASED THE SCENE! Cheesy, romantic, queer and glorious.

The ratings have dropped significantly for the show, and many people have got bored with it, but Kurt and Blaine (and Brittany and Santana) mean a hell of a lot for a lot of people. So thank goodness for the power of a fandom united.

...this time last year people were posting the poetry meme, and it was wonderful, and I miss it. So I thought I'd post one of my favourites. Would love to know yours!

The Cinnamon Peeler by Michael Ondaatje

If I were a cinnamon peeler
I would ride your bed
And leave the yellow bark dust
On your pillow.

Your breasts and shoulders would reek
You could never walk through markets
without the profession of my fingers
floating over you. The blind would
stumble certain of whom they approached
though you might bathe
under rain gutters, monsoon.

Here on the upper thigh
at this smooth pasture
neighbour to you hair
or the crease
that cuts your back. This ankle.
You will be known among strangers
as the cinnamon peeler's wife.

I could hardly glance at you
before marriage
never touch you
--your keen nosed mother, your rough brothers.
I buried my hands
in saffron, disguised them
over smoking tar,
helped the honey gatherers...

When we swam once
I touched you in the water
and our bodies remained free,
you could hold me and be blind of smell.
you climbed the bank and said

this is how you touch other women
the grass cutter's wife, the lime burner's daughter.
And you searched your arms
for the missing perfume

and knew

what good is it
to be the lime burner's daughter
left with no trace
as if not spoken to in the act of love
as if wounded without the pleasure of a scar.

You touched
your belly to my hands
in the dry air and said
I am the cinnamon
Peeler's wife. Smell me.

So I'm not big on RPF, but this fic blows that the hell out of the water. Because it is beautiful. neaf has written a Chris Colfer & Darren Criss FRIENDSHIP fic, exploring the blurred lines of an onscreen romance and platonic love. I just cannot get over the care & respect that has gone in to this ten part story series. The kind of fic that makes you tear up from pure joy.

To the series:

Adjective Adverb series

I honestly cannot recommend it highly enough.

IN OTHER NEWS:

Huzzah, new Juliaaaaaaaa Nunes :D (I'd just managed to get Bieber out of my head though after Glee's Comeback episode. Damn it for your epic mash up skills Julia!)

I've almost finished my degree. Two essays, two exams, and that's it. DONE. Only of course now there's applying to various things, and I've found myself completely blocked when it comes to writing personal statements for Masters. Been talking to my friend Jon about how unsettling it is to finish something as huge as this. I actually remember in school, those 'where do you see yourself in five years' type questions they're so fond of asking, I always said university. This whole next part has me stumped. I'm thinking about screenwriting, and know there's some great courses. All that's left is to write these two pages about why I want to do it, and why they should choose me.

Uuuuummmmm. :/ huh.

Jon's been giving me one heck of a pep talk. This post is pretty much so I have somewhere to document his brilliant turn of phrase, because it's dark and silly and a little true, and made me smile.

What if you're not burned out? What if you're just primed and waiting for a spark to ignite? Maybe you've been biding your time, deliberating over precisely how and why you are going to burn, like some kind of twisted creative arsonist?

I might be talking to myself here, I just don't know if anyone on my flist really cares about Glee, but having read this, I can't just leave it unrecced.

mary_flanner wrote a post-ep to 2x16 Original Songs, and it is just sublime. You go from fond affection to tears in your eyes love for these characters.

Perfect expression of why I've grown to love this show so much.

Coming out of LJ hibernation to do *flappy hands* over the new Glee 2x16 that aired in the USA. This is utterly unrefined fangirling, and you should probably run away.

SPOILERY SPOILERS OF EPIC PROPORTIONCollapse )

I am absolutely in love with Adele's new song, Rolling in the Deep. A mix between her first album classics and Florence and the Machine. Gorgeous imagery in her deep honey voice. Guh.

It's begging for a Helen/John Sanctuary fanvid, or Sparrabeth!!

And if that weren't enough, the Pirates of the Caribbean trailer is out! I'm the first to admit I've been very sceptical about another one (especially after the slightly chaotic AWE, that had some things I loved and some things I loathed!) but this, THIS, looks so amazing. Oh Jack, you will always be my Pirate. I'm just going to be weaving in Elizabeth in my own personal cannon, 'kay? Okay.

Hampton Court! Mermaids! Penelope Cruz! XD
